LCARS Font Guide

This theme does not bundle or generate fonts. Font choice is best handled on your own device, because launcher support and Android font workflows vary by setup.

Use the Star Trek Minutiae font archive to preview and download Trek-inspired fonts from their original source. This project links to the archive, but does not redistribute the font files.

Recommended font roles

Best for LCARS / Niagara app text

Pick readable interface fonts first. These are the best candidates for launcher labels, small labels, and LCARS-style UI text.

  • Federation — recommended default for this theme; readable while still feeling Trek-like.
  • Federation Wide — similar feel, better when you want broader display text.
  • Trek TNG Monitors — more computer-console accurate, but less ideal for all-day readability.
  • Context Ultra Condensed — narrow and efficient for LCARS labels, but more stylized.
  • Context Ultra Condensed Bold — useful for stronger section labels.
  • Starfleet / Classic Ship Hull — good for starship-flavored accents.

Best for title / display text

Use these for banners, lock screens, splash graphics, or theme names rather than dense app lists.

  • Jefferies Extended — elongated, technical, starship-like.
  • TOS Title — original-series retro title feel.
  • Trek Movie 1 / 2 — theatrical display styling.
  • TNG / DS9-style title fonts — useful when available from the archive.

Best for alien accents

Alien scripts are usually better as decoration than normal launcher labels. Use them for dividers, hidden-system flavor, widgets, wallpapers, or icon-pack easter eggs.

  • Klingon, Vulcan, Romulan
  • Bajoran, Cardassian, Dominion
  • Ferengi, Tholian, Trill, Trekbats

Suggested workflow

  1. Open the font archive and use its previews to shortlist a few fonts.
  2. Install the fonts on your phone or desktop test device.
  3. Try the readable interface fonts first for Niagara labels.
  4. Use title fonts for lock screens, wallpapers, or headers.
  5. Use alien fonts only as accent glyphs unless readability does not matter.

Practical recommendation

Start with Federation as the default everyday font for this theme. It keeps app labels readable while still matching the Trek-inspired direction.

Use Trek TNG Monitors or Context Ultra Condensed when you want a more screen-accurate LCARS computer-readout feel, but treat them as more stylized alternatives rather than the readability default.

For this project, the wallpaper and icon pack do the heavy visual lifting. Fonts should support readability instead of competing with the LCARS shapes.
